If you don&#8217;t do this, after changing the settings you&#8217;ll get an error like in the image below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/sites\/wpcentral.com\/files\/styles\/large_wm_brb\/public\/field\/image\/2015\/06\/windows-cannot-find_windows10.jpg?itok=_q4aGPhQ\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To do this, open File Explorer, navigate to&nbsp;<strong>View<\/strong>, click&nbsp;<strong>Options<\/strong>&nbsp;to access &#8220;Folder Options&#8221;, and on the &#8220;General&#8221; tab, change&nbsp;<strong>Open File Explorer to<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8220;This PC&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidcentral.com\/best-vpn-deals\">VPN Deals: Lifetime license for $16, monthly plans at $1 &amp; more<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/sites\/wpcentral.com\/files\/styles\/large_wm_brb\/public\/field\/image\/2015\/06\/folder-options-windows-10.jpg?itok=ciA8qSBa\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep in mind that removing quick access doesn&#8217;t clear the File Explorer history, as such this is a good time to disable&nbsp;<strong>Show recently used files in Quick access<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Show frequently used folders in Quick access<\/strong>, and click the&nbsp;<strong>Clear<\/strong>&nbsp;button to erase the File Explorer history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then click&nbsp;<strong>Apply<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In this step we will give the local administrator accounts full control over ShellFolder, which will allow us to modify the registry keys located in this particular shell folder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Open the Windows Registry as an administrator by launching the Run command using the&nbsp;<strong>Windows + R<\/strong>&nbsp;keyboard shortcut, typing &#8220;regedit&#8221;, and hitting&nbsp;<strong>Enter<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Navigate to the following registry path:&nbsp;<strong>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\CLSID{679f85cb-0220-4080-b29b-5540cc05aab6}<\/strong><\/li><li>Now you need to change the permissions of ShellFolder, right-click&nbsp;<strong>ShellFolder<\/strong>, select&nbsp;<strong>Permissions<\/strong>, then click the&nbsp;<strong>Advanced<\/strong>&nbsp;button.<\/li><li>At the top of&nbsp;<strong>Advanced Security Settings for ShellFolder<\/strong>, change the ownership of the folder to &#8220;Administrators&#8221;. To do this, click&nbsp;<strong>Change<\/strong>, click&nbsp;<strong>Advanced<\/strong>, click the&nbsp;<strong>Find Now<\/strong>&nbsp;button, and from &#8220;search results&#8221; select &#8220;Administrators&#8221;, then click&nbsp;<strong>OK<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>OK<\/strong>&nbsp;again, then&nbsp;<strong>Apply<\/strong>, hit&nbsp;<strong>OK<\/strong>, and hit&nbsp;<strong>OK<\/strong>&nbsp;one last time to close the ShellFolder Permissions box.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/sites\/wpcentral.com\/files\/styles\/large_wm_brb\/public\/field\/image\/2015\/06\/shellfolder-permissions-windows-10.jpg?itok=xUUNQ-NN\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With step 2 completed, we can now change the settings to remove quick access from File Explorer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inside &#8220;ShellFolder&#8221;, double-click&nbsp;<strong>Attributes<\/strong>, and change data value from&nbsp;<strong>a0100000<\/strong>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<strong>a0600000<\/strong>, and click&nbsp;<strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/sites\/wpcentral.com\/files\/styles\/large_wm_brb\/public\/field\/image\/2015\/06\/remove-quick-access-registry-windows-10.jpg?itok=N_s1pRE5\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Warning!<\/strong>&nbsp;Making changes to the Windows Registry can cause errors and other serious problems.
